Illustrator 10 For Mac OS X
According to sources, the German unit of Adobe Systems invited journalists there to a closed-door meeting set for the first weeks of September. The meeting is a typical one, and journalists in attendance will receive a preview version of the Mac OS X-compatible Illustrator 10 ffor testing and review. Illustrator 10, code-named Paloma, will be fast and stable. It will also ship with plenty of new features, including new functionality called "SVG interactivity." Think Secret previewed the software last month, in a no longer available feature. "Illustrator 10 will give a much better feeling of being a real illustrator's tool," one source said at the time. The product was demonstrated on stage at the keynote for Macworld Expo/New York in July. A source speculated, from the timing of the meeting, that Illustrator will be released in the middle or end of October. "Normally such meetings are scheduled six to eight weeks before the software hits the market," he said. This nearly lines up with a projection provided in July by the Register, projecting a "late October-November" release. In another feature article last month, we discussed Adobe's progress on Photoshop 6.5, carbonized for Mac OS X. At the time, we noted that it would be announced and demonstrated at Seybold later this month, although it would probably not ship until 2002. While admirable progress is certainly being made, some sources are still not positive as to whether Photoshop for OS X will make the Seybold demo. "It depends on who you talk to," one insider observed. |
